Helen has returned to GMTV as their newsreader and sometimes presents on the sofa. In 2002 she was appointed by Greg Dyke to anchor the BBC flagship programme, Look North. She also served as GMTV's US correspondent in New York.
Broadcasting Live for Five Hours Helen announced the Pope's death on Five, and hosted live debates throughout the General Election. Helen also presented rolling news on SKY, and was on-air when news of the Virginia Tech shootings broke, broadcasting live for five, uninterrupted hours.
At the BBC, Helen landed an exclusive interview with John and Pauline Prescott when it was revealed Pauline had given up a baby for adoption when she was sixteen.
Helen also hosted a live Elton John stadium concert in front of a sell out crowd of 23,000, as well as the BBC's Children in Need campaign.
Whilst in New York, she witnessed the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre from her Manhattan balcony. She reported on the tragedy and the subsequent war on terror for the following year. She covered the Bush/ Gore election, the execution of bomber Timothy McVeigh, and was a regular live host on the red carpet at The Oscars.
To Name Drop Just a Few! An exclusive half hour interview with Paul McCartney after his wife Linda was diagnosed with cancer led to GMTV poaching Helen and creating a showbiz correspondent role for her, based in the UK.
She travelled the world, interviewing many A list celebrities, including George Clooney, Michael Douglas, Sir Cliff Richard, Elton John, Dolly Parton, Annie Lennox, Luther Vandross and Tom Cruise, to name but a few!
